Slushie machines: the Ninja SLUSHi range compared

Real slush-shop texture at home, with no ice and no watered-down flavour. Pour in a drink, pick a preset and the SLUSHi chills and churns it until it’s ready to pull from the tap.

How it works

Pour, press, pull

  1. Chill your drink

Fridge-cold drinks slush faster. Juice, cola, iced coffee or a cocktail mix all work.

  2. Pour it in

Fill the vessel up to the max line. There’s no ice to add and nothing to blend.

  3. Pick a preset

Slush, Frozen Cocktail, Frappé, Milkshake or Frozen Juice. The XL and MAX can sense it for you with SlushAssist.

  4. Pull & serve

When it’s ready, pull the handle and pour straight into the glass.

Best slushie machine

Ninja SLUSHi

Best for: Slushies, frozen cocktails and frappés, with no ice needed

Ninja’s original frozen drink maker. Pour in juice, a fizzy drink, cold coffee or a cocktail mix and it chills and churns it into proper slush. No ice, no blending, no watered-down flavour.

  • 5 presets: Slush, Frozen Cocktail, Frappé, Milkshake & Frozen Juice
  • 1.9L max liquid fill: up to 7 × 260ml servings
  • Drinks ready in as little as 30 minutes (Ninja’s figure)
  • Pull-handle dispenser pours straight into the glass

Why we like it

  • Real slush-shop texture at home
  • Huge crowd-pleaser for parties and BBQs
  • Pour, press, wait. Very easy to use.

Bear in mind

  • Drinks need sugar to slush. Zero-sugar drinks won’t work on their own.
  • Takes up a fair bit of worktop
  • Several parts to wash after each batch
Best for parties

Ninja SLUSHi XL

Best for: Hosting, big families and less guesswork

  • 3.7L vessel, 2,840ml max fill: up to 10 drinks

  • SlushAssist alerts you if a drink needs more sugar

Why we like it

  • Party-sized batches
  • SlushAssist takes out the guesswork
  • Noticeably quicker than the original

Bear in mind

  • Big machine, so measure your worktop
  • Costs more than the FS301UK
  • Overkill for one or two people

*Ninja’s own figures. Real-world time depends on how cold your drink is to start with and how much sugar it contains.

Buy the SLUSHi if…

you want slushies for the family without spending top whack. Seven drinks a batch covers most households.

Buy the XL or MAX if…

you host often, have a big family, or want SlushAssist to take the guesswork out. The MAX makes the most per batch.

Buy the Twist if…

everyone wants something different. Two vessels means a kids’ slush and a grown-up frozen cocktail at the same time.

Why sugar matters

Sugar lowers the freezing point of a drink. That’s what lets a SLUSHi turn it into soft, pourable slush instead of a solid block of ice.

That means zero-sugar and diet drinks won’t slush properly on their own. You’ll need to add some sugar or a suitable syrup. The SLUSHi XL and MAX have SlushAssist, which senses your drink and tells you if it needs more.

Favourite things to slush

  • Classic slush: cola, orangeade or a fruit-flavoured slush syrup
  • Frozen juice: apple, orange or tropical juice
  • Frappé: cold brew or iced coffee with milk and sugar
  • Milkshake: milk, sugar and a flavouring syrup
  • Frozen cocktails: margaritas, daiquiris and piña coladas (adults only, so please drink responsibly)

FAQ

Slushie machine questions

Does the Ninja SLUSHi need ice?

No. It has its own built-in cooling and chills the drink in the vessel, so your slush is never watered down by melting ice.

How long does it take to make a slushie?

Ninja says the original SLUSHi can have drinks ready in as little as 30 minutes, and the XL and MAX up to twice as fast. Starting with a fridge-cold drink makes a big difference.

Can I use fizzy drinks?

Yes. Cola and other fizzy drinks are a favourite. Pour slowly, as they can foam, and remember they need to contain sugar.

Can it make alcoholic slushies?

Yes, there are dedicated Frozen Cocktail presets. Alcohol also lowers the freezing point, so stick to the recipes in Ninja’s guide for the best texture.

Is it noisy?

It has a compressor and a churning paddle, so expect a fridge-like hum while it’s working. Most owners find it fine to run in the kitchen.

How much space does it need?

All SLUSHi models are fairly chunky worktop appliances, and the XL, MAX and Twist are bigger again. Check the dimensions on the Amazon listing against the space under your wall cupboards.
